About Conscious Climbing
Conscious Climbing is a professionally guided rock-climbing service based in McCall, Idaho — built for youth, families, and first-time climbers eager to experience the granite landscapes of West-Central Idaho.
We operate at The Thinking Spot, a stunning single-pitch crag just 20 minutes from downtown McCall inside Ponderosa State Park’s Northern Region. Every session is led by a certified American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor and is designed to make climbing accessible and meaningful for those interested in experiencing the vertical terrain — whether it's your first time on the wall or your twentieth!
What We Offer
Half-day and full-day climbing outings for youth ages 10–17, families with kids as young as 6 (with parental participation), adult beginners, and team building group opportunities. For youth interested in continued progression we offer a once a week four-week program each month! For each service, all personal gear is provided — shoes, harness, & helmet.
When we run
We operate seasonally from May 1st through October 31st, with peak programming running through the summer and weekend programs continuing into the fall. Although, each season’s start and end date will vary due to unpredictable weather. If you are curious about this year’s conditions, please contact us for more information.
Who We Are
Co-founders Collin Carter and Emily Kucharski are two seasoned outdoor professionals who moved to McCall for its small-town mountain atmosphere. We started Conscious Climbing to provide yet another means of recreating in the beautiful landscapes surrounding McCall. Our dream is to open a local rock-climbing gym and believe there’s no better place to start than on the rock itself! Read our story here.

The future of Climbing in McCall
While we’ve been busy preparing for the outdoor climbing season, we’ve also been working behind the scenes to create a phased approach toward opening a climbing gym in McCall in the following years.
The climbing community in McCall deserves a space to train year-round! Our dream is to create a stronger sense of community for the climbers already here while also introducing this incredible activity to more people in McCall.
By starting this guide service, we plan to set aside savings to lease space for a small climbing area within an existing facility. Once we have established a small year-round space for climbers to use, we intend to continue raising funds with the hopes of one day opening an independent, state-of-the-art climbing facility in the heart of McCall.
