CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

  • Both Emily & Collin are certified to perform life-saving CPR & are trained beyond basic first aid standards.

  • Collin is an active AMGA member and has completed over 27-hours of in field training with an additional 18-hour exam to obtain the AMGA SPI certification prior to launch.

  • Emily has maintained a WFR certification since________. This training allows Emily to perform specialized first aid treatment & coordinate evacuation procedures while in remote environments.

Collin is certified in Wilderness First Aid and intends to further his knowledge through the Wilderness First Responder course in the following years.

  • Emily holds an AIARE 1 certification. Though this may be seen as irrelevant in the summer, this training focuses on the ability to assess and mitigate risks while recreating in variable terrain.

We use this mindset throughout our programming to implement risk management protocols and promote thorough preparation prior to each climbing session for all guest and staff.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SAFETY

Outdoor recreation carries inherent risk. Whether skiing down a mountain, tubing on a lake, or climbing on natural rock, each activity contains elements that cannot be entirely controlled. Conscious Climbing recognizes this reality and approaches climbing with a proactive, disciplined system designed to reduce exposure to hazards while in the climbing environment.

Our Risk Management System establishes the framework through which guides anticipate, identify, and respond to risks in the climbing environment. This includes managing controllable elements—such as equipment, communication, supervision, and site choice—and continuously assessing the uncontrollable, such as weather, rock conditions, and human factors. Through clear communication, we help participants understand both the inherent risks of climbing and the many ways the industry has evolved over the past century to manage them responsibly.

Conscious Climbing’s procedures align with AMGA single-pitch guiding practices, youth-program supervision standards, and the operational requirements of IDPR and CBIZ Adventure Sports Insurance. Risk management begins before the group leaves the trailhead, is maintained throughout the approach and all climbing activities, and concludes only after every participant has safely returned. Our chief aim is to cultivate awareness, reduce preventable risks, and make informed decisions that support a safe and meaningful climbing experience.
